Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles
Jeff Rudman -- Consumer Attorneys Member of the Month
Many members of Consumer Attorneys of Los Angeles will tell you that they view their fellow attorneys as family. When Jeff Rudman makes the claim, he means it literally.
Rudman's entire legal career has been spent working with members of his immediate family.
He was admitted to the California bar in 1998 and immediately began doing personal injury litigation with Barry Rudman. Rudman is Jeff's father.
Five years later, he went into practice in Beverly Hills with David Greenberg, specializing in personal injury and employment discrimination litigation. Greenberg is Rudman's father-in-law.
Rudman feels that his fellow Consumer Attorneys are also like family.
"I have benefited so much from being a part of Consumer Attorneys of Los Angeles," says Rudman. "CAALA and its membership have been there for me from the very beginning of my career."
Rudman has successfully handled hundreds of cases in the fields of personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, premises liability and employment discrimination.
Just a few weeks ago Rudman was co-counsel with fellow Consumer Attorney Arash Homampour in a case that resulted in a significant favorable trial verdict. The case was Calderon v. Bear Trucking, and involved the wrongful death of an undocumented immigrant. It was tried in Simi Valley, and the 28-year old plaintiff widow only spoke Spanish, testifying through an interpreter. Apportionment was a major problem with the decedent being a passenger in a car that veered off the freeway and struck a truck that was parked 20 feet off the side of the freeway. The jury awarded $7,000,000, attributing 80 percent of the apportionment to the defendant trucker.
In 2006, he was co-counsel in the motorcycle/wrongful death trial of Turner v. Wu, where the jury returned a verdict in excess of $2,000,000 to a mother for the death of her adult son.
In the past year, he has become an active member of CAALA's membership committee, serving as co-chair. He plays a strong role in recruiting new members and is also personally committed to convincing those who are thinking of giving up their membership to stay in the Association.
Jeff believes that personal contact with members is the best way to communicate to them.
"Sometimes it helps to hear personally from another lawyer about how important membership in CAALA can be for their career," said Rudman. "I don't mind taking the time to talk to these perspective and current members personally. It makes me feel good to tell them about my personal experience with CAALA."
As a young lawyer, Rudman is also determined that CAALA provide benefits and services that are specific to lawyers who are just starting out.
"I joined CAALA right after attending my first Las Vegas Convention," said Rudman. "I learned right there how many things CAALA can provide to young lawyers."
Rudman was born in Los Angeles and grew up in the San Fernando Valley. He attended the University of California, Santa Barbara and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1995. He then attended Loyola Law School where he received the Loyola First Honors Award in the study of Professional Malpractice in 1997, and his J.D. in May 1998.
Jeff's immediate family increased in size in March when his wife Dove gave birth to the couple's second son. They also have a two-year-old boy.
Jeff is an active member of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, raising money and leading a team in the annual MS walk. He's added his name to lists of attorneys willing to give free consultations on behalf of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Epilepsy Legal Defense Fund and the American Diabetes Association.
Because of his dedication to improving Consumer Attorneys of Los Angeles by recruiting and retaining members, and in recognition of his commitment to the best ideals of Consumer Attorneys, Jeff Rudman has been awarded the Presidential Certificate of Merit, recognizing him as Consumer Attorneys Member of the Month.
