LOS ANGELES--Consumer Attorneys of Los Angeles announces that Garo Mardirossian (Mardirossian & Associates) will serve as its 2010 president and also announces its new officers and Board of Governors, all of whom were installed Saturday, Jan. 23, at the 61st Annual CAALA Installation & Awards Dinner at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Mardirossian’s 2010 officers are Philip Michels (Michels & Watkins), President-elect; Michael Alder (The Law Offices of Michael C. Alder), First Vice President; Lisa Maki (Law Offices of Lisa L. Maki), Second Vice President; Geoffrey Wells (Greene Broillet & Wheeler), Treasurer and Joseph Barrett (The Cochran Firm), Secretary.

“I am very proud to be serving as the 61st president of this important organization,” said Mardirossian.

The oath of office for the officers and board was administered by California Supreme Court Justice Marvin Baxter.

Mardirossian’s two immediate predecessors are Amy Solomon (Girardi & Keese) and Randy McMurray (The Cochran Firm).

“Our founding members would be gratified to know that the organization they established—years before the civil rights or feminist movements—has been led by the presidency of a female lawyer, by an African American attorney, and now by an Armenian immigrant who is the grandson of Armenian Genocide survivors,” said Mardirossian.

Consumer Attorneys of Los Angeles is the nation’s largest local association of plaintiffs’ attorneys.  It was founded in 1949 and currently has a membership of nearly 3,000 consumer attorneys.  The association’s mission is to educate the public about the importance of the American civil justice system, one of the fundamental bedrocks of the American democracy.

After graduating from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Mardirossian attended Whittier College School of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1981.  He founded the Law Offices of Garo Mardirossian that year, starting by handling a variety of cases, and gradually through the years taking on more challenging and complex matters.

Over the years, the firm has handled a variety of cases involving product liability, civil rights, insurance bad faith and negligence.  Mardirossian has extensive trial experience and has recorded more than two dozen multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements.  He is a frequent lecturer at legal seminars on topics from premises liability to defective products.
