Sanford Jossen —Consumer Attorneys Member of the Month

Sanford Jossen works and lives in Manhattan Beach, and has been a CAALA member since 1994. He was born in New York and earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Southampton College, Long Island University in 1974. Jossen graduated from the University of San Diego law school in 1980.

In an article in the Daily Journal in March, he wrote that he began his practice in 1982 “as a sole practitioner whose clients were everyday people who ordinarily had no money, couldn’t afford to hire a lawyer and had been injured, bullied by a big company or institution, or ripped off.”

Jossen has devoted many hours standing up for the rights of children. In 2001 he filed a lawsuit on behalf of seven children who were residents of MacLaren Children’s Center, an L.A. County emergency shelter for abused and neglected children. The children had suffered serious injuries at the hands of MacLaren staff. As a result of the lawsuit and others, dozens of staffers were removed or quit. The Center was closed in 2003.
