New Lawyers Roundtable: Going Solo


Going Solo - Success Stories & Challenges. Are you ready to hang your own shingle? Are you already solo, but need some advice on the challenges you're facing? Past New Lawyers Chairs Martin Aarons, Bill Karns and Christa Ramey will share what worked and didn't work when they started their own firms. Join this month's roundtable to discuss what it takes to start and run your own practice.

Roundtable Discussion Speakers:    

Martin I. Aarons is the principal in The Aarons Law Firm, APC, located in Encino where his practice focuses on representing employees in employment matters, including wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation cases.  He is a member of the Board of Governors of CAALA and was a finalist for the CAALA Rising Star Award in 2015, received the CAALA Presidential Award in 2013, and the Steven C. Glickman Award in 2012.  He also received Super Lawyer for 2016 and Rising Star Award for 2012-2015.

Bill Karns is a partner at Karns & Karns focusing on major personal injury. Bill is on the Board of Governors of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA) and Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC). In 2014, Bill was selected as a SuperLawyer. Bill received the CAALA Presidential Award of Merit and the New Lawyers Division Chair Award of Merit in 2012 from CAOC. He has served on LACBA’s Judicial Elections Evaluation Committee, and is a member of multiple Bar Associations.

Christa Ramey is a shareholder at Ramey Law P.C. and practices law with her husband, John Ramey.  She has been practicing law since 2000 and has exclusively represented injured plaintiffs during her career. Ms. Ramey litigates personal injury matters including wrongful death, Medical Malpractice, FELA, automobile accidents, among other types of cases. She has been named both a Rising Star and a Super Lawyer, for the past 5 years, by Super Lawyers Magazine. Ms. Ramey serves on the Board of Governors for Consumer Attorneys of Los Angeles (CAALA), where is Emeritus. She is a Chair of the Education Committee for CAALA. Ms. Ramey is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).  In addition, she is on the Steering Committee for the Loyola Law School Civil Justice Program, and her law firm sponsors the American Association of Justice’s Mock Trial in Santa Monica every year. She is also a member of Consumer Attorneys of California, American Association for Justice and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. In addition to her practice, Ms. Ramey is a member of Rotary International.  She believes that Rotary’s Motto of Service Above Self drives her in both community service and the practice of law.

This meeting is open to current attorney members of CAALA, includes complimentary dinner buffet. Guests are not eligible to attend member-only programs.
