Happy April!  When I joined CAALA in my third year as a lawyer, I drank up all the education and networking events I could. I tried to go to everything. To learn. To meet people. To become the best lawyer and advocate I could possibly become.  Nothing has changed.  I still can’t get enough of all that CAALA has to offer for learning, for networking, and for making friends.  April is one of CAALA’s best months for in-person learning and networking this year.

The Superior Court of Los Angeles County’s Judicial Mentor Program has opened registration for its next workshop, “What's Really Stopping You From Applying? Part II: LA County Judicial Officers Discuss How They Overcame Deterrents and Hurdles to Become a Judge.” Scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on April 17, this virtual workshop is a great opportunity for attorneys in Los Angeles County interested in exploring a career on the bench.

The Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation (JNE) assists the governor in the judicial selection process. Appointed by the State Bar Board of Trustees, JNE is charged with thoroughly investigating and evaluating candidates under consideration for appointment by the governor to California judgeships (Roster). JNE helps promote a California judiciary of quality and integrity by providing independent, comprehensive, accurate, and fair evaluations of candidates nominated for judicial appointment. CAALA believes that greater involvement by plaintiff counsel in JNE and similar committees results in consideration of our viewpoints, more fairness, and benefits our clients and practices.  CAALA encourages you to apply! Apply online by Mon. On January 27, 2024, CAALA held its sold out 75th Annual Installation & Awards Dinner at the Fairmont.
