On Saturday, July 27, Wellness Committee member Steve Vartazarian, his wife Collette, and the Wellness Committee hosted a cooking class for CAALA members!  This event brought together CAALA members to celebrate their mutual passion for cooking and well-being! Attendees enjoyed learning a secret recipe from a renowned Beverly Hills restaurant, all while celebrating their shared passion for culinary arts and well-being. Governor Gavin Newsom has announced the appointment of 11 Superior Court Judges across several counties. These include two judges in Alameda County, four in Los Angeles County, one in Napa County, two in Orange County, one in Placer County, and one in Ventura County.

Among the newly appointed judges in Los Angeles County are Damaris Diaz, a former Assistant US Attorney; Janet Hong, a former trial attorney; Cindy Pánuco, formerly Of Counsel at Perez & Perez; and Tiffany Tai, formerly a Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner. All four appointees in Los Angeles are Democrats, and Judges Hong and Pánuco are also former members of CAALA.

Autumn is upon us—the season of change. As we end the summer, and transition away from our best-attended Vegas conference ever, we now look forward to the rest of the year and the amazing programs CAALA has put together for our members. On September 20th and 21st, the Women in Law Summit takes place at Terranea in Palos Verde. We invite all of our women members and non-members alike to participate in this outstanding conference.

Volunteer to distribute nutritious meals and clothing to upwards of 250 unhoused and low-income neighbors with Food on Foot, one of our partner charities since 2018.  We are limited to 15 volunteers. Children between the ages of 10 and 17 are welcome if accompanied by a legal guardian. This is also a GREAT opportunity to clean your closets and bring gently used clothes for men and women.

Alyssa Gonzaga was awarded the inaugural CAALA Scholarship from SCCLA! Alyssa is a law student from UCI School of Law and a bright, first-generation immigrant from the Philippines. Alyssa is interested in workers rights, which is primarily why she was chosen to receive the CAALA scholarship.
