The CAALA x WLALA Foundation Scholarship has been awarded to Gisell Del Carmen, who is entering her third year as an evening student at Southwestern Law School. Gisell is the first college graduate in her family and prior to deciding to attend law school, her work as a paralegal helped Gisell see firsthand how minority female workers who were undocumented were harassed and belittled.

Governor Gavin Newsom announced the appointment of 15 Superior Court Judges in June, including two in Los Angeles County. Doreen Boxer and Steven Ipson, both former Commissioners at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, will serve as Justices in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

July is here, the half-way mark of the year. It's been a great year for CAALA so far, and the second half of the year seems like it will be even better. We have the CAALA Las Vegas Convention just a couple of short months away, and several important committee meetings coming up this month.  

As our firm has grown, so has our involvement with CAALA. When we think about all we've been able to experience from our involvement, the training, the networking, the opportunity to celebrate each other's victories, it truly is something we're all grateful for.

Join LATLC to celebrate the summer with older children in foster care and orphanages.  KidSave helps these wonderful teens find their forever home, a host family, or a mentor through building meaningful relationships with adults and families.  We will have games, crafts, and activities to help both the teens and families get to know each other.  The event will be at Servicon offices in Culver City.

LATLC and OCTLC are co-hosting the Great Tryke Giveaway on Saturday, July 27, at Bancroft Middle School in Long Beach! In addition to celebrating the children receiving their new adaptive tricycles, we will assemble 1,000 toiletry kits for individuals experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

In April, the Court launched an Internal Training Program to expand the pipeline of Court Reporters and Interpreters. “Ensuring meaningful access to justice requires capturing the verbatim record and enabling litigants to understand proceedings in their preferred language,” said Presiding Judge Jessner. Given the high demand and critical role of these positions, the Court will utilize existing talent to fill them.

Effective May 13, 2024, Department 30 in the Personal Injury Hub was closed down and a new unlimited jurisdiction Independent Calendar Court was opened in the Alhambra Courthouse (Department T), with Judge Ian C. Fusselman assigned. (5/17/24 General Order)

  • PI cases over two years old are reassigned from Department 30 to Department T.
  • PI cases under two years old will be redistributed from Department 30 to the remaining departments within the PI Hub.

Effective June 24, 2024, Department 31 in the Personal Injury Hub will close and a new unlimited jurisdiction Independent Calendar Court will open at the Van Nuys Courthouse, Department B. Personal Injury cases filed before June 23, 2022 and previously assigned to Department 31 will be reassigned to Department B for all purposes. Cases filed after that date will be redistributed to the remaining departments within the PI Hub.

CAALA will continue to keep you updated as the court gradually closes the PI Hub.
